Race Report: Round 1 WMA Hangtown
Date:
5/31/2008
Story:
Race Report: Round 1 WMA Hangtown It was a good day for racing in Sacramento, Ca. as round 1 of the WMA Series started at the Hangtown Motocross Classic. Zip-Ty Racing was there to support Sherri Cruse and Katie McGuire, as they got ready to do battle with the top women pro’s in the nation. With the WMA and the AMA Nationals going on at the same time, the women got 15 minutes of practice and then one moto on Saturday, and one moto Sunday. As the first moto got underway, Sherri got a good jump off the gate on her ZipTy Racing Malcolm Smith Motorsports Suzuki RMZ250F, but unfortunately tangled with Ashley Fiolek and went down. It took a minute for her to shake off the cobb webs and get herself restarted. Sherri continued to push and was able to make up several positions finishing in 19th place. Katie McGuire, on the other hand, got a good jump off the gate on her ZipTy Racing/Malcolm Smith Motorsports YZ250F and was running in the top 6. As the moto continued, Katie pushed hard and was able to work her way up into third place as she finished the moto. Moto 2 for the girls was on Sunday during the pro intermission. This was the first time the girls had ridden in front of that may spectators so needless to say tensions were high. When the gate dropped, Sherri got a great start and was running in 6th position. Sherri fought her way up and rode consistently moving up to as high as 4th place. With the rough track conditions, Sherri made a few mistakes and got passed back. She finished the second moto in 8th place putting her in 14th overall for the first round. Katie got a bad start and was running in 15th position. She slowly started working her way back up one rider at a time. Eventually she would finish the moto in 7th position and 5th overall for the round. We would like to thank all of our sponsors, family and friends for their support and hope to see you at the next WORCS Series Round in 2 weeks in Sacramento, Ca.
